The result? A three-guitar attack consisting of Green's West
Coast jazz meanderings, Perry Osborn's jam leanings and Hampton's
avant-garde rock. Drummer Mark Letalien and Kris "Kris Kristofferson"
Dale, who slammed away on a very impressive custom fretless
mahogany bass guitar, rounded out the lineup. For
two hours, the quintet wiggled and thumped through Aquarium
Rescue Unit classics such as "Space is the Place," crowd favorite
"Time is Free" and "Elevator to the Moon."
Col.
Bruce and the Quark Alliance - "Elevator to the
Moon," live at The Nick
Hampton
and the Alliance also put their stamp on blues standards "Spoonful"
by Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightnin" and
funked through traditional gospel song "Working on a Building."
Former
Hampton bandmate and Curlew member Davey
Williams joined the fray with his Steinburger guitar for
a few numbers, shredding and scratching as the band let the
fusion fly.
The
Colonel looks healthy and the latest incarnation of his band
means business. They will be playing throughout the Southeast
all summer. If you can catch them with Green, consider yourself
lucky.
